Sandesh Sherpa is an experienced professional mountain guide from a small village in the remote Sankhuwasabha region of northeastern Nepal. Although his roots are in the high Himalaya, he was born and raised in Nepal’s Terai region, where summer temperatures reach 30–34°C. His path into mountaineering began at the age of six through daily hikes to school, developing the physical endurance and discipline that shaped his career.
Since 2011, Sandesh has been leading trekking, mountaineering, canyoning, and mountain biking expeditions throughout Nepal. He has completed a diploma in mountaineering and advanced IFMGA guide training, gaining extensive technical expertise and many years of professional guiding experience.
When not actively guiding in the Himalaya, Sandesh is deeply involved in mountaineering education, training fellow climbers and aspiring guides while sharing his technical knowledge and safety experience. He has led North Face route-fixing teams alongside elite climbers Jim Chin and Jim Morrison, working at extreme altitudes up to 8,000 meters.
Sandesh has successfully summited several 8,000-meter peaks, including Mount Everest, and has climbed dozens of 7,000-meter peaks in Nepal and internationally. As a mountain guide, he has led clients on major Himalayan trekking routes and high-altitude expeditions across the region.
Beyond climbing, Sandesh is passionate about canyoning and mountain biking in the Himalaya, where he continually explores and develops new trails on foot and by bike. He also serves as an Executive Board Member of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, reflecting his strong commitment to social work, mountain safety, and the sustainable development of Nepal’s mountaineering community.
