Kanchenjunga region

The Kanchenjunga region is located in the far-eastern part of Nepal, close to the borders of India and Tibet, and is named after Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the third-highest mountain in the world. This remote region is one of Nepal’s least-visited trekking areas, making it ideal for travelers seeking a peaceful and authentic mountain experience. It lies within the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, which protects diverse wildlife such as red pandas and snow leopards, along with beautiful rhododendron forests. Trekking routes lead to both the North and South Base Camps, offering impressive views of glaciers, high passes, and massive Himalayan peaks. The area is also home to culturally rich communities, including Limbu, Rai, Sherpa, and Tibetan-influenced people who maintain traditional lifestyles. Due to its isolation and restricted status, trekkers must obtain special permits and travel with a licensed guide. Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit, providing stable weather and clear mountain views.
